Passport renewal eligibility

You may renew if your most recent Canadian passport:

  1. is valid or has been expired for no more than one year;
  2. has the same name, sex, date of birth and place of birth that you would like to appear on your new passport;
  3. has been issued with a 5-year or 10-year validity;
  4. is not damaged;
  5. has never been reported lost or stolen; and
  6. has been issued when you were at least 16 years of age.

The Government of Canada website for Canadian passports will indicate what you need to submit with your renewal request, such as:

  1. The required form
  2. Your most recent passport
  3. The required fee
  4. Photos
  5. References

Once completed and signed, you may submit your application to our office abroad at the address indicated.

To ensure the correct photo requirements are met, print a copy of the Passport photo specifications to take with you to the photographer.
